We have to get beyond the conversation in our metro area that any dollars spent on infrastructure, particularly transit, should be for reducing traffic congestion.

Great quote. Likewise, we have to get beyond the idea (held by many) that developing a transit project primarily as an economic booster is throwing money away.

If planned well, transit-as-catalyst can work wonders. Far from being part of a United Nations conspiracy against cars, it has roots in US streetcar suburbs and has successful precedents in Portland, downtown Phoenix and elsewhere.
